Styling Tartan For Autumn | Trend Files

Originally posted on

Over the past few years I have come to the conclusion that the ultimate representation of Autumn fashion for me is a tartan print. The traditional Scottish pattern appeals to me because of it's classic print yet it can have such dimension with all the different colours, geometrics and styles that are available when wanting to wear the trend. I have built up a little (but rapidly growing) collection of checked scarves over the past couple of years, and I do find them to be the must-have autumn staple.

This Barbour scarf* is no exception, being made of 100% lambswool it is so cozy, soft and exceptional quality for the cost. Likewise I think the colour is a little more unique in contrast to a classic red tartan print; the muted shade makes it so easy to pair with my entire Autumn wardrobe. There are a variety of other colours available too which can be viewed here. When styling tartan I choose to go for block colours rather then patterns for the rest of my outfit, yet playing on texture makes the look much more interesting. I draped the scarf over my crew-neck rose mohair jumper and added edge with some ripped denim jeans and a pair of brown brogues. This is definitely one of my go-to A/W Outfits because I just find that the tartan print is so bold that it pulls together any simple outfit and not to mention, adds an abundance of warmth for the chilly British Autumn.

What is your favourite Autumn trend or pattern to wear?
